Blue Cheese Dressing
Blue Cheese Dressing, believed to have originated in the United States, is a flavorful and creamy dressing that boasts a distinctive tanginess derived from blue cheese. This dressing has become a versatile condiment, finding its place in salads, dips, and as a complement to various dishes. Its roots can be traced to the mid-20th century, gaining popularity in tandem with the rise of salads as a staple in American cuisine.
The dressing’s rich and robust flavor profile, characterized by the pungency of blue cheese, adds depth to salads and is often used as a dip for vegetables or wings. Its creamy texture and bold taste make it a popular choice for those who appreciate the unique qualities of blue cheese.
Notable variations of Blue Cheese Dressing include those that feature crumbles of blue cheese for added texture and intensity of flavor. As a condiment, it has evolved beyond its American origins and is now enjoyed globally, gracing salads and dishes with its distinctive taste. Blue Cheese Dressing remains a classic favorite, appreciated for its ability to elevate the flavors of various culinary creations, making it a staple in the world of dressings and condiments.
Chart House Blue Cheese Dressing Recipe
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Sour Cream
- 1/2 teaspoon Dry Mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground Black Pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/3 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 1/3 cups Mayonnaise
- 6 ounces crumbled Blue Cheese
Instructions
- Place sour cream, mustard, pepper, salt, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce in a mixing bowl. With an electric mixer on low speed, beat together for 2 minutes.
- Add mayonnaise. Beat an additional 30 seconds. Increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes. (Alternately, for a more modern interpretation of Blue Cheese Dressing, add 1/2 the blue cheese now with the mayonnaise. Mixing it in like this, breaking up the pieces of cheese, gives the dressing a smoother consistency.)
- Using a spatula, gently fold in blue cheese.
- Place in a sealable jar or container. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving.
