Long Island Iced Tea
The Long Island Iced Tea is a classic cocktail known for its strong alcoholic content and deceptively mild taste. Despite its name, it does not contain any actual tea; instead, it gets its name from its similar appearance to iced tea.
The typical Long Island Iced Tea recipe includes equal parts of several different spirits, which can vary depending on the bartender’s preference or the establishment. The core ingredients usually include vodka, rum, gin, tequila, and triple sec (orange liqueur). To balance the strong spirits, the cocktail is typically mixed with sour mix (a blend of lemon or lime juice and simple syrup) and topped off with cola. Some variations may also add a splash of lemon or lime juice for extra tartness.
When properly mixed, the Long Island Iced Tea has a light brown color, similar to traditional iced tea, hence its name. Despite the variety of liquors included, the cocktail often tastes sweet and refreshing, with the cola providing a hint of caramel and fizz.
Due to its combination of multiple spirits, the Long Island Iced Tea is known for its relatively high alcohol content, so it’s a drink to be enjoyed responsibly. It’s a popular choice at bars and restaurants, appreciated for its bold flavor profile and the way it packs a punch in a single glass.
