Bubba Gump Shrimp Company CoronaRita Cocktail Recipe
A “CoronaRita” is a type of cocktail you see at many Mexican restaurants that typically combines a margarita with a Corona beer. It’s served in a large margarita glass, and an inverted Corona beer bottle is placed into the glass, allowing the beer to slowly mix with the margarita as it’s consumed. This creates a refreshing and unique combination of flavors.

Margaritas
Margaritas, a beloved and iconic cocktail, are renowned for their refreshing and tangy flavor profile. Originating in Mexico, this classic drink has evolved into various iterations but typically consists of three main ingredients: tequila, triple sec (orange liqueur), and lime juice. The combination of these elements creates a harmonious blend of sweet, sour, and bitter notes, making margaritas a versatile and crowd-pleasing choice.
Margaritas can be served in different styles, such as on the rocks (over ice) or blended with ice to achieve a slushy consistency. The rim of the glass is often salted, providing a delightful contrast to the drink’s citrusy undertones.
Additionally, creative variations abound, with flavored liqueurs, fresh fruit juices and inventive garnishes adding depth and complexity to the traditional recipe.
This cocktail has become a symbol of leisure and relaxation, frequently associated with beachside vacations and festive gatherings. Whether enjoyed in a highball glass or a festive margarita glass, this timeless drink continues to capture the hearts of cocktail enthusiasts around the world, offering a perfect balance of bold flavors and a touch of escapism in every sip.
Bubba Gump Shrimp Company CoronaRita Cocktail Recipe
Ingredients
- Coarsely Ground Salt to rim glass
- 2 Lime Wedges 1 to rim glass and 1 to garnish cocktail
- 1 1/4 ounce Gold Tequila
- 3/4 ounce Triple Sec
- 1/2 ounce Sweet and Sour Mix (also called Sour Mix) store bought or homemade, of choice (See Box Below for a Link to our Simple Home Recipe)
- 1/2 ounce freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
- One 7-ounce bottle Corona washed
Instructions
- Pour a layer of salt out onto a small saucer.
- Run 1 lime wedge around the rim of a margarita, tumbler or other glass, of choice. Discard wedge.
- Place glass rim-down onto the salt. Push down lightly and roll glass to fully rim with salt. Set aside.
- To an ice-filled shaker, add tequila, triple sec, sweet and sour mix and lime juice. Shake until well-chilled.
- Add ice to prepared glass.
- Strain prepared margarita into glass.
- Open beer and carefully tip bottle upside down into margarita. (You do not need a bottle holder like Bubba has (See photo above) (although having one would be nice, wouldn't it?). This just makes it easier for the waiters to carry. You can just simply place the bottle straight into the drink as many Mexican restaurants do.
- Garnish with remaining lime wedge.
- Serve.
