The Flying Biscuit Café Creamy Dreamy White Cheddar Grits Recipe
Ingredients
- 6 cups Water
- 2 cups Half-and-Half
- 3 teaspoons Kosher Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon White Pepper
- 2 cups Quick Grits
- 1 cup grated White Cheddar Cheese
- 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter cubed
- Freshly ground Black Pepper to serve
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, add water, half-and-half, salt and white pepper.
- Place over medium high heat and bring to a boil.
- Slowly pour grits into boiling water, whisking constantly (be careful not to splatter mixture on yourself - it will be very hot).
- When all grits are added and incorporated, reduce heat to low. Continue to cook, still whisking often, until mixture thickens and becomes completely smooth, about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Add cheese. Stir gently until cheese melts.
- Whisk again to combine.
- Turn heat off. Allow grits to rest for 5 minutes.
- Add butter. Stir until completely smooth and shiny.
- Serve hot with a black pepper grinder within easy reach.
