Sonny's BBQ Sweet Chipotle Smoked Wings Recipe
Equipment
- Grill
- Smoker
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 pounds Chicken Wings, cut into "Drummettes" and "Planks" (leave "tips" connected to planks or cut off and discard)
- 1 bottle Sonny’s Sweet Sauce or other 12 ounces Sweet BBQ Sauce store bought or homemade, of choice
Chipotle Marinade
- 1/2 cup Olive Oil
- 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed Lime Juice
- 2 tablespoons Adobo Sauce (from a can of Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce)
- 2 cloves Garlic minced
- 1 teaspoons Smoked Paprika
- 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a sealable bowl large enough to hold all the wings, add all ingredients under Chipotle Marinade heading, olive oil, lime juice, adobo sauce, garlic, paprika, brown sugar and salt. Mix well.
- Add wings to the marinade. Toss to cover all wings evenly. Place in the refrigerator and marinate for 4 hours or overnight (do not leave in marinade more than 24 hours).
- Preheat the smoker to 250°F with your favorite wood for smoke flavor.
- Remove wings from marinade, allowing excess to drip off, and place in smoker. Smoke for one hour. Be sure to discard marinade.
- Preheat grill to medium to high heat.
- Remove wings from smoker.
- Place on preheated grill over medium to high heat and cook for 1 - 2 minutes per side. Remove from the grill once you have desired caramelization and place in a large bowl.
- Add BBQ sauce. Toss to coat well.
- Serve with dipping sauces, of choice.
