Panda Express Sweet Sesame Seed Balls Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Water
- 1 cup Sweet Rice Flour (Available at Asian grocery stores and many larger supermarkets.)
- 1/3 cup Cold Water
- 2 tablespoons Sugar
- 1/4 tablespoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 cup Sweet Lotus Paste (available at Asian grocery stores and many larger supermarkets. Red Bean Paste can be substituted if sweet lotus paste cannot be found.)
- 1/2 cup Sesame Seeds
- 7 cups Cooking Oil
- Powdered Sugar to garnish
- Mint Leaves
Instructions
- Place flour in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Place 1/4 cup water in a small cooking pot.
- Place over high heat and bring to a boil.
- When water is boiling, carefully pour into flour.
- Add sweet rice flour, 1/3 cup Cold Water, sugar and baking powder to the bowl. Mix well.
- Form mixture into 10 equal-sized balls.
- Place balls on a work surface and pound flat.
- Place 2 teaspoons sweet lotus paste in center of each flattened ball.
- Roll dough up around paste to from back into a ball shape, enclosing paste completely.
- Place sesame seeds in a large shallow bowl.
- Roll balls in sesame seeds to get a nice even covering (See photo above).
- Place oil in a wok.
- Heat to medium-low.
- When oil is hot, place balls inside. Deep fry for about four minutes, or until outside is golden brown and balls float on top of oil.
- Remove balls and set on serving plate.
- Dust very lightly with powdered sugar and sprinkle with mint leaves.
