Slow-Cooked BBQ Ribs
Slow-Cooked BBQ Ribs are a beloved culinary delight, renowned for their tender texture and rich flavor. This cooking method involves preparing the ribs over a low and slow heat, typically on a grill or smoker, allowing the meat to become incredibly tender while absorbing the smoky flavors of the wood or charcoal.
One of the key aspects of slow-cooking BBQ ribs is the use of a flavorful dry rub or marinade. This mixture of spices, herbs, and seasonings is applied generously to the ribs before cooking, infusing the meat with layers of delicious flavor. Common ingredients in BBQ rubs include paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, cumin, chili powder, and black pepper, among others. Some recipes may also incorporate liquid marinades or sauces to further enhance the flavor profile of the ribs.
During the slow-cooking process, the ribs are typically wrapped in foil or placed in a covered container to help retain moisture and promote even cooking. This allows the meat to become incredibly tender, with the connective tissues breaking down gradually over time. Depending on the cooking method and temperature, BBQ ribs may require several hours to cook to perfection, with some recipes calling for cooking times of six hours or more.
As the ribs cook low and slow, they absorb the aromatic smoke from the wood or charcoal, infusing them with a rich and smoky flavor that is characteristic of traditional BBQ. This slow-cooking process also allows the fat to render and caramelize, creating a delicious crust on the exterior of the ribs known as the “bark.”
Once the ribs are cooked to perfection, they are typically served hot off the grill or smoker, accompanied by classic BBQ sides such as coleslaw, baked beans, cornbread, or potato salad. The result is a mouthwatering dish that is sure to satisfy BBQ enthusiasts and food lovers alike, with tender, flavorful ribs that are bursting with smoky goodness.

Bahama Breeze Rum and Coke BBQ Ribs Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 racks Baby Back Ribs, about 1 1/2 pounds each

- Bahama Breeze Rum and Coke BBQ Sauce chilled
- 1 cup Water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250°F.
- Rub ribs, on both sides, with a generous amount of salt and pepper or BBQ seasoning.
- Pour a small amount of Bahama Breeze Rum and Coke BBQ Sauce into a cup or small bowl.
- Brush ribs with this sauce. Discard remaining sauce in the cup or bowl when done. (This is to keep the larger portion of sauce from touching the brush that touched the raw meat when you dip the brush.)

- Add about 1 cup of water to tray.
- Wrap ribs and tray tight with plastic wrap. Then wrap ribs and tray tight with aluminum foil.
- Place wrapped tray into preheated oven set and cook for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until the ribs are tender.
- When tender remove from oven. Unwrap foil and plastic wrap.
- Brush ribs with rum and Coke BBQ sauce.
- Place on hot grill and cook until they have a nice char, brushing frequently while grilling and before removing the ribs from the grill.
- Serve with more Bahama Breeze Rum and Coke BBQ Sauce, to dip.
