Cracker Barrel Grits Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups Water
- 1 1/4 cups Milk
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Quick-Cooking Grits not instant
- 1/4 cup Butter
Instructions
- Place water, milk and salt into a small pot. Stir to mix and dissolve salt.
- Place over medium heat and bring to a boil.
- Slowly stir grits into boiling mixture. Stir continuously and thoroughly until grits are well-mixed.
- Let the pot return to a boil. Lower heat to low. Cover pot with a lid and simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Add more water, if necessary.
- When grits are done (they should have the consistency of stiff Cream of Wheat) stir in butter.
- Serve hot, with additional butter on top of each portion, if desired.

It doesn’t say when to put in the butter.

It’s when the grits are done cooking, in Step #5 – “When grits are done (they should have the consistency of stiff Cream of Wheat) stir in butter.”
Then, add more when you are eating them – like I do!
