Neiman Marcus Restaurants
Neiman Marcus, the epitome of luxury retail, extends its dedication to elegance beyond fashion and into the realm of dining with its in-store restaurants, cafés, and bars—an indulgent fusion of fine shopping and gourmet experiences. Originating from the Dallas-based department store founded in 1907, these dining establishments became a hallmark of refined taste, offering an oasis for weary shoppers looking to refresh with a glass of champagne, a perfectly crafted salad, or a legendary popover with strawberry butter.
The first Neiman Marcus restaurant, The Zodiac, opened in the flagship Dallas store in the 1950s, quickly becoming an institution. Known for its upscale yet approachable cuisine, it served signature dishes like the famous Chicken Salad, Mandarin Orange Soufflé, and the much-adored Pecan Ball dessert. Over time, the concept expanded into a collection of elegant eateries, including Mariposa, The NM Café, and the Neiman Marcus Bars, blending contemporary American flavors with a touch of European sophistication.
Neiman Marcus restaurants have long been featured in popular culture, exuding an air of exclusivity. From appearances in classic films like Mahogany (1975) and Working Girl (1988), where power lunches defined ambition, to their cameo in Sex and the City, these venues have symbolized a place where fashion, business, and leisure intertwine.
Found in Neiman Marcus locations nationwide, from Beverly Hills to Chicago and New York, these restaurants remain a sanctuary of old-world department store grandeur. Whether enjoying lobster bisque beneath chandeliers or sipping a cocktail overlooking Fifth Avenue, the experience is timeless—an invitation to linger in a world where luxury is not just worn, but savored.
Cheddar Cheese Biscuits
Cheddar Cheese Biscuits are a warm, buttery indulgence, a perfect marriage of rich, sharp cheese and tender, flaky dough that has captivated taste buds for generations. Though biscuits themselves have deep roots in Southern cuisine, their cheesy counterpart likely emerged as a natural evolution—combining the South’s love for biscuits with the universal appeal of cheddar cheese.
The origin of cheddar biscuits is difficult to pinpoint, but their rise to widespread fame is often linked to American home cooking and beloved chain restaurants like Red Lobster, whose Cheddar Bay Biscuits have become legendary. Inspired by classic Southern drop biscuits but infused with garlic, butter, and sharp cheddar, these addictive treats gained a cult following and are now synonymous with comfort food.
While Red Lobster may have popularized them on a national scale, cheddar biscuits have long been a staple at bakeries, brunch tables, and family gatherings across the U.S. and beyond. In the South, they are often served alongside barbecue, fried chicken, or seafood, their rich, savory profile balancing out smoky and spicy flavors. Variations exist everywhere—from fluffy, mile-high versions in Texas to crumbly, scone-like takes in New England.
What makes a great cheddar biscuit? A golden, crisp exterior that gives way to a soft, cheesy center, punctuated with a touch of garlic or herbs. Whether enjoyed fresh from the oven, drenched in butter, or as a sandwich base, cheddar cheese biscuits are a true comfort classic—warm, nostalgic, and irresistibly good.

- 1 cup freshly shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan Cheese
- 3/4 cup Buttermilk cold
- 1 Egg lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped Chives
- 2 tablespoons melted Butter for brushing
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt and garlic powder.
- Cut in cold butter with a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg and Worcestershire sauce.
- Gradually add wet ingredients to the flour mixture, stirring just until combined.
- Fold in the chopped chives.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead 3 to 4 times.
