Watergate Hotel Mom's Apple Crisp Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 Apples (Granny Smith are a good choice)
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed Lemon Juice
- 2 tablespoons Cinnamon
- 1 cup Flour
- 3/4 cup Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- A pinch of Salt
- 2 tablespoons Cinnamon divided
- 1/3 cup Butter melted, divided
- 1 Egg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Peel the apples, if you like. They are fine peeled or unpeeled.
- Core the apples. Chop into small cubes. Apple chunks should be no smaller than 1 inch (or they will get too mushy when cooking).
- Place apples into a large bowl.
- Add brown sugar, lemon juice and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Toss until apples are well-coated.
- Pour apple mixture into an oven-safe 8 1/2 x 12-inch casserole dish.
- In a small bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and 1 tablespoon cinnamon.
- Add egg and about 1/2 of the butter.
- Spread mixture evenly over top of apples.
- Sprinkle remainder of the butter on top of the crisp.
- Cover dish with foil.
- Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes, or a bit more until deep golden brown and bubbling.

Is there supposed to be oatmeal in this? By the picture it looks like it has oatmeal in it. I prefer oatmeal in my apple crisp but I don’t know how much to put in. It looks very good.

Agreed. Picture has oatmeal in it but recipe doesn’t. I prefer no oatmeal.

This recipe needs more information like how about how much time in the oven, how to spread the mixture over the top, etc. Also you should have a picture of what the final product looks like, the one that you chose is not a good one and seems like it has oatmeal in it.
