California Pizza Kitchen
California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) has carved a distinctive niche in the culinary landscape since its inception in 1985. Founded by attorneys Larry Flax and Rick Rosenfield in Beverly Hills, California, CPK emerged as a pioneer in the concept of serving innovative, non-traditional pizzas. The restaurant’s mission was to create a relaxed, California-style atmosphere where guests could enjoy fresh, high-quality ingredients in a casual setting.
CPK’s menu reflects a diverse fusion of flavors, drawing inspiration from various cuisines. While pizzas remain a focal point, featuring unique toppings like barbecue chicken and Thai-inspired combinations, the menu also includes a variety of salads, pastas, and appetizers. This innovative approach to pizza has played a significant role in reshaping the perception of what constitutes a traditional pie.
The influence of California Pizza Kitchen extends beyond its menu, as it became an early advocate for using fresh, seasonal ingredients and emphasizing health-conscious options. This approach resonated with diners seeking a departure from conventional pizza chains.
Over the years, CPK has expanded its reach both domestically and internationally, becoming a well-known brand with a presence in shopping centers, airports, and urban locations. The restaurant’s distinctive California-style ambiance, characterized by open kitchens and hearth ovens, has contributed to its popularity and widespread recognition.
Despite facing challenges in the competitive restaurant industry, California Pizza Kitchen’s adaptability and commitment to culinary innovation have helped it maintain its status as a beloved dining destination. Whether patrons are enjoying a classic Original BBQ Chicken Pizza or exploring new flavors, CPK continues to offer a unique dining experience that reflects the vibrancy and diversity of California cuisine.
California Pizza Kitchen Appetizers: A Flavorful Prelude to a Great Meal
At California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), Appetizers aren’t just starters—they’re bold, flavor-packed experiences designed to set the stage for a memorable meal. Drawing inspiration from global cuisines, CPK’s small plates are anything but ordinary, blending fresh ingredients, inventive combinations, and just the right balance of indulgence and sophistication.
One of the most iconic choices is the Avocado Club Egg Rolls, a crispy golden shell wrapped around a luscious filling of avocado, grilled chicken, tomato, Monterey Jack cheese, and smoky applewood bacon, served with housemade ranchito sauce and herb-infused ranch dressing. These egg rolls are a perfect marriage of creamy, crunchy, and savory, making them a must-try.
For those craving something with a little more heat, Spicy Buffalo Cauliflower transforms the humble vegetable into a crispy, fiery delight, tossed in house-made Sriracha Buffalo sauce and paired with cool ranch dressing. It’s an irresistible option for spice lovers and a fantastic vegetarian twist on classic Buffalo wings.
The Baja Chicken Tortilla Spring Rolls take a Southwest-inspired approach, wrapping grilled chicken, roasted corn, black beans, and peppers in a crunchy tortilla roll, served with a creamy dipping sauce. They’re light yet packed with robust flavors, making them a fan favorite.
Seafood lovers will adore the Dynamite Shrimp, crispy tempura-battered shrimp coated in a spicy, creamy sauce that delivers the perfect kick, while the Spinach Artichoke Dip, a warm and velvety blend of cheeses, spinach, and artichokes served with crispy tortilla chips, is a comforting classic.
At CPK, appetizers are more than just a prelude—they are vibrant, crave-worthy creations that steal the spotlight and keep guests coming back for more.
