Ted’s Montana Grill
Ted’s Montana Grill is a distinctive American restaurant chain founded in 2002 by media entrepreneur Ted Turner and restaurateur George McKerrow Jr., created with a vision to revive the American bison population while offering hearty, classic comfort food in a warm, Old West-style setting. The first location opened in Columbus, Ohio, and from the start, the restaurant stood out for its dedication to sustainability, American heritage, and high-quality ingredients. With an emphasis on bison, a leaner, richer alternative to beef, Ted’s helped reintroduce bison to mainstream dining, contributing to the revitalization of the species.
The cuisine at Ted’s Montana Grill celebrates traditional American fare with a modern, thoughtful twist—burgers, steaks, meatloaf, pot roast, and hand-cut fries dominate the menu, but it’s the bison options that steal the show. The restaurant is widely acclaimed for its Bison Delmonico Ribeye, Bison Meatloaf, and the rich, flavorful Avalon Burger, topped with Gruyère, bacon, and roasted garlic aioli. There’s also an emphasis on scratch-made sides, fresh salads, and comforting desserts like hand-made strawberry shortcake and cookies baked to order.
Ted’s has expanded modestly, with locations primarily across the South, Midwest, and Eastern U.S., including Georgia, Colorado, Florida, and the D.C. area, reflecting a selective growth strategy that keeps quality and values intact. The rustic saloon-style decor, complete with wood-paneled booths, tin ceilings, and Old West charm, gives each location a sense of timeless Americana.
Its reputation for responsible sourcing, friendly service, and bison-forward menu has made Ted’s a favorite among diners looking for both tradition and a bit of adventure. Popular for both family dinners and business lunches, Ted’s Montana Grill is a unique blend of Western spirit and modern sustainability, earning loyalty through consistent quality and a memorable dining experience.
Apple Crisp
Apple Crisp is a popular and comforting dessert that features tender, spiced apples beneath a crispy, crumbly topping. It’s a classic dessert known for its simplicity and delicious flavor. To make apple crisp, you start by peeling, coring, and slicing apples. These apple slices are then combined with sugar and spices like cinnamon and a touch of lemon juice for extra flavor.
The topping is made by mixing flour, oats, sugar (often brown sugar), and cold butter. Sometimes, chopped nuts like pecans or almonds are added for additional crunch and flavor. The topping is crumbled over the seasoned apples.
The dessert is baked in the oven until the apples become soft and the topping turns golden brown and crispy. It’s best enjoyed warm and is often served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, adding a creamy contrast to the warm, fruity filling and crunchy topping. Apple crisp is a beloved, homely dessert that’s particularly popular during the fall when apples are in season.
