Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., inspired by the 1994 film “Forrest Gump,” debuted in 1996 on Cannery Row in Monterey, California, as the first and only casual restaurant chain rooted in a movie. With over 38 locations, including 22 in the US and 16 internationally, it offers scratch-made, southern-style comfort cuisine, prominently featuring shrimp, along with burgers, ribs, salads, and cocktails.
The restaurants are adorned with movie memorabilia, and diners can engage in Forrest Gump movie trivia. To request assistance from waitstaff, guests can simply display a “Stop, Forrest, Stop” sign.
Margaritas
Margaritas, often hailed as the quintessential cocktail of summer, boast a vibrant history dating back to the 1930s. While its exact origins are disputed, the cocktail’s popularity surged in the 1940s and 1950s, becoming an iconic Mexican-American creation. The classic Margarita is a simple yet harmonious blend of tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, served over ice and often rimmed with salt.
Over the years, the Margarita has undergone numerous interpretations and variations, becoming a canvas for mixologists’ creativity. Fruit-infused Margaritas, such as strawberry, mango, and watermelon versions, offer a sweet and refreshing twist, appealing to a wide range of tastes. Spicy variations, incorporating ingredients like jalapeños or chili-infused syrups, add a bold kick for those seeking a more adventurous flavor profile.
Margaritas are not confined to a single glass format; frozen Margaritas, served slushy and cold, are popular in warmer climates, while on-the-rocks versions maintain a classic appeal. The Margarita’s versatility has contributed to its global appeal, making it a staple in bars and restaurants worldwide.
Its prominence extends beyond cocktail menus, with National Margarita Day celebrated annually on February 22, emphasizing the enduring love for this beloved libation. Whether enjoyed on a beach, at a festive gathering, or in the comfort of one’s home, the Margarita remains a symbol of conviviality and the perfect marriage of sweet, sour, salty, and bitter flavors, capturing the essence of laid-back leisure and celebration.
