Applebee’s Cowboy Burger
An Applebee’s Copycat Recipe
You are gonna need some BBQ Sauce for this burger. You can use your favorite, store bought or homemade sauce, though to be true to the recipe we recommend a Kansas City or Texas-Style Sauce. St. Louis-Style might work, too. But to get the real Applebee’s taste, just use Applebee’s BBQ Sauce. We have the recipe. 😉

One more thing – The Applebee’s menu version of this burger calls for Onion Straws. These are a bit tricky to make at home and we think that is why the recipe we found called for Onion Rings, which you can by frozen in any grocery. It’s your call. We have included both in our recipe.

Applebee's BBQ Sauce (Click HERE for the Recipe) or your favorite BBQ Sauce, store bought or homemade
Instructions
- Preheat grill to high.
- Place bacon in a large skillet.
- Fry over medium heat until browned and crisped. Drain on a paper towel-covered plate. Save drippings.
- In a large bowl combine beef, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and cheddar cheese.
- Form into 2 large patties. Make a slight indentation in the center of the burger. (This is to prevent the pattie from doming up in the center. The indentation will rise as your burger cooks.)
- Grill for 4 - 5 minutes each side. During the last few minutes, after flipping, add additional cheddar cheese to melt.
- Toast buns on low or indirect heat.
- Spread mayonnaise on bottom buns.
- Place buns on serving plate. Top with lettuce and tomato slices.
- Place burgers on tomatoes. Top with bacon and 1/4 cup barbecue sauce. Add 2 onion rings or a handful of onion straws.
- Serve and enjoy!
