Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Penne Pasta
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil + more if needed
  • 1 1/2 pounds Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 pound Italian Sausage sliced
  • 1 cup Yellow Onion diced
  • 4 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • One 28-ounce can Crushed Tomatoes
  • One 15-ounce can Tomato Sauce
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Basil chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Prepare pasta according to package directions. Drain. Set aside.
  • Place olive oil in a large oven-safe braiser or deep skillet. Place over medium-high heat.
  • When oil is hot and shimmering, add chicken pieces. Sear until golden brown on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • In same pan, add Italian sausage. Heat until browned and fully cooked. Remove and set aside with the chicken.
  • Reduce heat to medium, adding more olive oil if needed.
  • Add onions. Sauté until soft, about 3 minutes.
  • Stir in garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, oregano, basil, black pepper and salt. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce and chicken broth. Stir to combine. Simmer for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  • Stir in heavy cream.
  • Return chicken and sausage to pan.
  • Fold in cooked penne pasta.
  • Scatter evenly with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Transfer to preheated oven and bake uncovered for 20 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbling.
  • Carefully remove from oven. Set aside and allow to rest for 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
  • Serve hot.
