Yield: 4 Appetizer Servings
- 8 ounces Cream Cheese softened
- 1 cup shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- 1 - 2 Jalapeños seeded, stemmed and finely chopped (adjust heat level to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 2 large Eggs beaten
- 1 1/2 cups Seasoned Breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, shredded cheddar, jalapeños, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix until smooth and evenly combined.
Coven and place in refrigerator to chill for about 30 minutes to firm up.
Scoop out small portions of the cheese mixture, about 1 tablespoon each, and roll into bite-sized balls.
Place cheese balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Place tray in freezer and freeze for 1 hour.
Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
Dip each cheese ball into the flour, then the egg, and finally coat it in breadcrumbs. (For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.)
Place vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot. Place over medium high heat and heat to 350°F (175°C).
Place breaded cheese ball carefully into hot oil in batches and fry for 2 - 3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Using a slotted spoon, remove cheese balls to a paper towel-covered plate to drain. Set aside and keep warm.
Serve the jalapeño cheese bites hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like ranch or a zesty chipotle mayo. (See Box below for Links to Some Good Ones!)
