Prepare Custard Filling according to recipe below. Place, covered, in the refrigerator, to chill completely.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Sift flour and baking powder together. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat butter until soft and creamy. Add sugar gradually. Mix thoroughly until fully combined.
Add eggs, both at once, vanilla and salt, and beat thoroughly.
Gradually add milk and flour mixture, alternating, until all is mixed in.
Pour batter into 2 greased 8-inch cake pans.
Place in preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes, until browned.
Remove from oven. Set aside to cool completely.
Remove cakes from pans.
Spread prepared and chilled custard very thickly over top of one cake.
Place other cake gently on top of custard.
Prepare Chocolate Glaze according to recipe below.
Spread glaze over top of pie.
Serve cold.
