Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, add sugar and butter. Beat until fully mixed.
Gradually add in eggs, one at a time, beating well.
Add almond extract, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Beat until just blended.
Slowly add flour, blending on low speed.
Stir in the almonds. Mix for 30 seconds.
Form the dough into a 12 x 3 inch log on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Place in preheated oven. Bake until lightly golden, about 40 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for 30 minutes.
Cut diagonally into 3/4-inch slices. Reduce oven to 350°F.
Arrange slices cut side down on cooking sheet. Bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
Transfer from the baking sheet to plate and allow to cool for about 1 hour.
Serve at room temperature.
