A Maggiano’s Little Italy Copycat Recipe
The Aviation cocktail, was created in the early 1900s when flying was brand new and terribly exciting. An Aviation is made with gin, maraschino liqueur, Crème de Violette – which gives the cocktail it’s pale sky-blue color – and lemon and is served straight up in a cocktail glass. Because of the scarceness of Crème de Violette in the 1930s, bartenders then and today occasionally omit the violet liqueur, calling for a mixture of gin, lemon juice and a couple dashes of maraschino. Maggiano’s Little Italy uses the original recipe.

Maggiano's Little Italy Aviation Cocktail Recipe
Make this Straight-From-the-Restaurant Maggiano's Little Italy Aviation Cocktail Recipe at home. This Signature Restaurant Cocktail is Maggiano's Little Italy version of the Classic Cocktail that is "Blue like the Sky."
Yield: 1 Cocktail
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Gin
- 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed Lemon Juice
- 1/4 ounce Luxardo Maraschino
- 1/2 ounce Crème de Violette
- Lemon Slice to garnish
Instructions
- To an ice-filled shaker, add all the ingredients, except lemon slice. Shake until well-chilled.
- Double strain into a chilled Coupe or other glass.
- Garnish with lemon slice
- Serve.
