Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 4 tablespoons Cocoa
  • 1 cup hot Water

Icing

  • One 1-pound box Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 4 tablespoons Cocoa
  • 6 tablespoons Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 cup Pecans Walnuts or other Nuts, of choice

To Serve

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Chocolate Syrup

Instructions

Cake

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Sift together flour, sugar and salt. Set aside.
  • In separate bowl, add eggs, buttermilk, soda and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat to mix well. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan add 1 cup butter, 4 tablespoons cocoa and water.
  • Place saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a boil.
  • Combine 3 mixtures. Mix until well-blended.
  • Pour into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
  • Place pan in preheated oven. Bake 25 minutes.
  • Remove from oven. Set aside to cool.

Icing

  • Place powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
  • Place 1/2 cup butter, 4 tablespoons cocoa and milk in a pot.
  • Place over medium heat. Bring to a boil.
  • Pour mixture over powdered sugar. Mix well.
  • Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and nuts. Mix well.
  • Pour icing over cake while it's hot.
  • Cool cake. Cut.
  • Place a square of cake on a serving plate.
  • Top with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Drizzle with chocolate syrup.
  • Serve.
