Yield: 4 Servings

Ingredients

  • Cold Water to soak onion rings
  • 1 extra large White Onion sliced 1 inch thick
  • About 6 cups more or less as needed, Vegetable Oil, for frying
  • 1 cup McCormick Golden Dipt Tempura Seafood Batter Mix
  • 1/4 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground Black Pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Beer
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Fill a large bowl with cold water. Add a few ice cubes to chill it down more.
  • Peel onion. Slice onion into thick slices.
  • Separate slices into individual rings. Place rings into cold water to soak while you make the batter and heat the oil.
  • Pour oil into deep fryer, Dutch oven or large, heavy cooking pot.
  • Heat oil to 375°F
  • To a large, preferable shallow, bowl, add McCormick Golden Dipt Tempura Seafood Batter Mix, onion powder and black pepper. Stir to mix.
  • Slowly stir in 1/2 cup water and beer. Mix well until smooth.
  • Remove rings, a few at a time, from the cold water, allowing the water to drip off.
  • Dip rings into prepared batter. Toss around to fully coat.
  • Make sure the oil is up to temperature. Drop the rings, one at a time, into the hot oil. Drop as many as will fit comfortably in cooker without crowding.
  • Fry for 3 - 5 minutes, turning as needed, until golden brown.
  • Remove done rings to a paper towel-covered plate to drain.
  • Repeat until all rings are cooked.
  • Lightly salt and serve hot with a generous selection of Dipping Sauces (See Box below for Links to Some Good Ones!)
