Milk
scalded, cooled to lukewarm, divided
2
packages Active Dry Yeast
1/4
cup
granulated Sugar
2
teaspoons
Salt
2
Eggs
beaten
1/4
cup
Vegetable Shortening
5
cups
All Purpose Flour + more
as needed and to flour work surface
Melted Butter
Instructions
Pour 1/2 cup lukewarm milk into a mixing bowl.
Add yeast. Stir to dissolve.
Stir in remaining milk, sugar, salt, eggs, shortening and flour. Beat until smooth, adding more flour as needed to make the dough easy to handle.
Turn dough onto lightly floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Do not overwork.
Place kneaded dough ball into greased bowl. Turn over so greased side is up.
Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in warm place until doubled.
Remove dough and shape into rolls.
Dip in melted butter.
Place in greased muffin tin cups or 3 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
Let rise again.
Preheat oven to 325°F.
When risen, bake in preheated oven for 20 - 30 minutes.
Remove from oven and out of muffin cups, if using.
Brush again with melted butter.
Serve warm.
