Ingredients

  • 2 cups Milk scalded, cooled to lukewarm, divided
  • 2 packages Active Dry Yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 Eggs beaten
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable Shortening
  • 5 cups All Purpose Flour + more as needed and to flour work surface
  • Melted Butter

Instructions

  • Pour 1/2 cup lukewarm milk into a mixing bowl.
  • Add yeast. Stir to dissolve.
  • Stir in remaining milk, sugar, salt, eggs, shortening and flour. Beat until smooth, adding more flour as needed to make the dough easy to handle.
  • Turn dough onto lightly floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Do not overwork.
  • Place kneaded dough ball into greased bowl. Turn over so greased side is up.
  • Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in warm place until doubled.
  • Remove dough and shape into rolls.
  • Dip in melted butter.
  • Place in greased muffin tin cups or 3 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
  • Let rise again.
  • Preheat oven to 325°F.
  • When risen, bake in preheated oven for 20 - 30 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and out of muffin cups, if using.
  • Brush again with melted butter.
  • Serve warm.
